USAA commits $2.3 million to military-focused nonprofits to support COVID-19 response

SAN ANTONIO – USAA and The USAA Foundation, Inc. have committed a total of $2.3 million to military-focused and national nonprofits to support America’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. This support is in addition to the $2.1 million that USAA has directed to local nonprofits in USAA communities.
Military-focused nonprofits included in the planned $2.3 million investment are:
- The Association of Defense Communities/Blue Star Families COVID-19 Military Support Initiative
- Fisher House Foundation
- Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors
- USO
- We Care for America Foundation
The funds will help provide meals and emergency financial assistance for military families, care packages for troops deployed overseas, and the development of best practices and policy recommendations to respond to and recover from COVID-19.
“All Americans are feeling the effects of this pandemic, including those who protect our freedom and their families,” USAA President and CEO Wayne Peacock said. “These organizations are on the front lines providing much-needed resources for military families, and we are honored to be able to help. It’s time for us to come together, to do our part; these resources are designed to provide relief during this crisis.”
In addition, USAA and The USAA Foundation, Inc.’s philanthropic commitment will help address the blood-supply shortage through the American Red Cross and research to create lifesaving coronavirus therapies and vaccines by Texas BioMed Research Institute in San Antonio.
Previously, USAA announced a $1 million donation to five San Antonio-area nonprofits. It also is providing an additional $1.1 million to nonprofits in Phoenix, Tampa, Colorado Springs, Dallas/Fort Worth and southeastern Virginia.
