USAA Encourages Veterans to Review Medicare Options

There are approximately 7.7 million military veterans in the United States

SAN ANTONIO – (November 1, 2021) With an increasing number of United States military veterans reaching retirement age over the next decade, more people are facing the need to plan for the next stage in their life. One of the biggest potential changes—and expenses—is health care. According to a recent survey by HealthView, a healthy 65-year-old couple retiring in 2021 will spend $662,156 on health care costs throughout retirement2. With Medicare serving as the primary health insurance provider for Americans aged 65 and older, USAA is encouraging veterans—and all considering retirement or who qualify for Medicare due to disability—to review their options during the Medicare annual enrollment period from October 15-December 7.

USAA is proud to recommend Medicare solutions designed with veterans in mind, including Medicare Advantage plans offered by Humana. Available to anyone eligible for Medicare, Humana’s Honor Plans may complement veterans’ existing health care coverage by offering access to a broad network of care providers at more treatment locations and may include extra benefits like dental care with premiums as low as $0/month.

“For the millions of people who transition into retirement each year, the process can be a very confusing and frustrating time,” said Jason Dudley, vice president and general manager of health solutions at USAA. “There are a lot of options and decisions to make. USAA is working to make health insurance-related decisions as easy as possible by recommending products we believe will meet veterans’ needs.”

USAA encourages veterans and their families to take the time to research options, evaluate the different plan types and form a game plan. More information about Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement products can be found at usaa.com/medicare.
